LAKHIMPUR: Journalist of Lakhimpur Subrat Kakati is no more. He breathed his last in Guwahati on Monday morning. He was 33. He was an active member of the Banderdewa Press Club.

Kakati fell ill in November last for cardiac problems while he was at work for collecting news. Then he had been under treatment for a month at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. In December, his cardiac surgery was done at a private sector hospital in Guwahati. On Sunday night he, with his wife and a relative, went to Guwahati by train for his regular check-up. Unfortunately his health condition deteriorated at Guwahati railway station after he got off the train on Monday morning and died.

Born at Pothalipahar in Lakhimpur district, Kakati established himself as a successful businessman in addition to working in the field of journalism. He was popular in the entire Banderdewa area for his amiable and altruistic attitude. As soon as the news of his death spread, several hundred people thronged his home and paid him last homage after the body reached home from Guwahati in the evening on Monday. He is survived by his wife, mother, an elder brother along with a host of relatives.
