TINSUKIA: Parag Bhuyan, a senior journalist of Kakopathar and also vice-president of Tinsukia District Journalists' Association (TDJA), who was fatally injured in a road accident in front of his house on Wednesday, died at a nursing home in Dibrugarh on Thursday.
According to reports, Bhuyan, after procuring medicines from a pharmacy nearby, was talking to another journalist when a TATA Xenon tea leaf carrying vehicle bearing registration number AS 23 BC 7881 knocked down the duo from behind. While Bhuyan sustained severe head injury and was tossed to a distance of 15 feet, the other journalist received minor injury. The vehicle fled from the site and was later traced at Namsai police station in Arunachal Pradesh by Tinsukia Police where both the driver and handyman surrendered.
The driver and the handyman have been identified as James Murah (31) of Samaguri Namsai and Raba Bordoloi of Rajagarh, Doomdooma. Murah was in an inebriated condition. According to Ripunjay Kakoty, ASP Tinsukia, it was a road accident though family members claimed that it was a planned murder with ulterior motives. He was 52 and leaves behind his wife and two minor children. Various organizations, including TDJA expressed shock and deep condolence to the bereaved family members.
GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the death of senior journalist ParagBhuyan who died in a road accident in Tinsukia district. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said, "Late ParagBhuyan has made significant contribution in the field of journalism and his death is an irreparable loss to the society. I convey deep sympathy to the bereaved family and pray for eternal peace of the departed soul". Chief Minister's Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami also mourned the death of journalist Parag Bhuyan and offered his sympathy to the bereaved family.
LAKHIMPUR: North Lakhimpur Press Club has condemned the alleged murder of Kakapothar journalist ParagBhuyan and demanded the State Government to ensure the comprehensive security of the working journalists of the State.
The issue of the death of the journalist was discussed in details at the general assembly meeting of the NLPC which was held on Thursday at the press club office. By taking a resolution, the members of the common forum of headquarter journalists of Lakhimpur unanimously expressed their concern over the growing threat towards the life of the working journalists of the State. In this regard, NLPC demanded the State Government to initiate steps to secure the life of journalists as well as their family members. NLPC further demanded the State Government to launch an inquiry into the 'accident' of the journalist and to arrest the culprits involved.
BISWANATH CHARIALI: Tribute was paid to journalist Parag Bhuyan on Thursday by Biswanath Chariali Press Club. A meeting was held on the occasion in front of Sahitya Sabha Bhavan here. Senior scribes condemned the incident in their speeches and demanded probe into the accident that led to his demise.
