Journalists' body condemns Pijush Hazarika for 'threatening' scibes

GOLAGHAT: The Golaghat District Journalists' Association on Friday strongly condemned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and minister Pijush Hazarika for allegedly threatening two journalists. In a press statement, president BikashSarma, working president Nagen Bora, general secretary Dwipen Bora and secretary DipmoniKhatoniar said that in an audio clip that had gone viral, the minister could be heard threatening a journalist over the phone for airing a news report related to his wife Aimee Baruah.

The Journalist Association has strongly condemned the act of intimidation against the journalist and also demanded that appropriate action should be taken against the minister by the Election Commission after verifying the authenticity of the audio clip. Further, the journalist association demanded that the safety and security of journalists should be ensured by the Election Commission and the State Government.

LAKHIMPUR: The North Lakhimpur Press Club has condemned the act of reprimanding and issuing threat to a scribe by PijushHazarika, the State Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Urban Development, who is also the candidate for Jagiroad Legislative Assembly Constituency in the ongoing Assam Assembly Election - 2021. The victim scribe has already filed a case at Jagiroad Police Station in this regard. The North Lakhimpur Press Club has demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Director General of Police (DGP) of the State to initiate legal action immediately with regard to the incident.
