TANGLA: Tangla Media Circle organized a condolence event to reminisce the contribution of journalist Dhaneswar Rabha who passed away after battling with chronic kidney disease and was later infected with COVID-19 on September 6.
Various organizations and institutions condoled his untimely demise, including Chief Minister Sarabananda Sonowal who had sent a condolence message to the bereaved family members of the journalist. Journalists and senior citizens from various nooks and corners of Udalguri district paid obeisance and floral tribute to the portrait of journalist Dhaneswar Rabha at a condolence event held at the office of Tangla Media Circle in Tangla town of Udalguri district on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist and president of Udalguri Press Club, Gautamjyoti Talukdar remembered Rabha as a media person with unmatched honesty and integrity who selflessly served the people through journalism.
The event, anchored by Bapan Sarma, was also addressed by president of Udalguri chapter of Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU), Girish Sarma who made an appeal to the Assam Government to provide an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the bereaved family members, as promised by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to journalists who succumb to COVID-19 on duty.
The meet was also attended by APCU secretary Naba Kumar Deka, journalists Deepak Deka, Gunajit Das, Shajid Khan, Pranjal Sahariah and others. A team of journalists also visited the bereaved family members of Rabha at his native village in Kacharital of Udalguri district wherein journalist Gunajit Das provided a cheque of Rs 5,000 and Gautamjyoti Talukdar, on behalf of Udalguri Press Club, provided Rs 5,000 to the wife of Rabha along with some bags of ration.
