DOOMDOOMA: As part of the programme of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to convene press meets all over the State over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as MP in the wake of the Surat court judgement sentencing him to two years’ imprisonment with fine, the Kakopathar Block Congress Committee (KBCC), too, held a press meet at Rajiv Bhavan, Doomdooma on Sunday.

Terming the incident as a glaring example of crisis of democracy where the government-led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had trampled the country’s Constitution by misusing institutions like Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT) department, KBCC stated, “We must put an end to the darkness that has loomed large over the country.”

The press meet that was convened by Rajen Medhi and Naren Koiri, president and secretary respectively of KBCC, was also addressed by Durga Bhumij, former MLA. Bhumij who was highly critical of the Modi government’s inability to check spiralling price rise, termed as ‘gimmick’ the various pre-election assurances of the government like giving jobs to two crore unemployed youths, Ujwala scheme etc. He said their agitational programmes would continue all over the State as per APCC’s directive.
