DHUBRI: On the occasion of Buddha Purnima on Thursday, Dhubri Kalibari Committee performed rituals and offered prayers to Goddess Kali to protect the mankind from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost all the priests of Dhubri town performing puja were invited to this auspicious occasion and were felicitated by the members of the committee. Besides according felicitation, the priests, whose economic condition is not sound, were given away food packets containing rice, flour, mustard oil, gram, soyabean, salt, soap and other essential commodities by the committee.

Convener of the committee, Dipankar Mazumdar said that during the lockdown, temples remained closed and devotees had not been able to visit the temples and offer anything. "Priests live on the offerings from the devotees and in absence of it, it has become extremely difficult for them to support their families. So we decided to extend some food materials to them and we hope that some other social organizations and individuals will come out to support them," Mazumdar added.
