Kalita groups demand tribal status and autonomous council

The Kalita Janagosthi Sanmilan (KJS) and its sister organizations - Mahila Parishad and Yuba-Chatra Parishad on Sunday demanded the Government to grant tribal status to the people belonging to the Kalita community of Assam besides forming an autonomous council and giving land rights to them.

DOOMDOOMA: The Kalita Janagosthi Sanmilan (KJS) and its sister organizations - Mahila Parishad and Yuba-Chatra Parishad on Sunday demanded the Government to grant tribal status to the people belonging to the Kalita community of Assam besides forming an autonomous council and giving land rights to them. At a meeting held at Doomdooma Natya Mandir, presided over by Dharani Saikia, President KJS, Tinsukia District Committee several speakers addressed including Dhiren Deka, President, Assam Science Writers' Association, Arjun Baruah, President, Tinisukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX).

The speakers were critical of the utter negligence of the Government towards people of Kalita community.
