Kamrup road safety committee meeting held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, Kamrup was held today at the District Development Commissioner's Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner Kamrup and Chairman, DRSC, Kamrup.

At the outset of the meeting, the Member Secretary, DRSC, Kamrup cum Executive Engineer PWD, North Kamrup Territorial Road Divisions, Rangia appraised the progress of the decisions taken in the last DRSC meeting.

Emphasizing reducing the incidents of road accidents in the district, Deputy Commissioner directed PWD (Roads) and the officials of NHAI to take some corrective steps in the identified accident-prone spots. Since speeding is a major factor for maximum road accidents, the Deputy Commissioner also advocates more stern actions like cancellation of driving licence etc., against the violators of road safety rules.

It may be mentioned that 775 driving licences were cancelled in the district to date due to violations of road safety rules. The meeting also discussed various issues like parking of trucks at FCI godown, pedestrian road crossing, installation of solar blinking at the accident-prone area, the infrastructure of Madanpur Toll Gate etc.

Considering the importance of road safety and regular review of the progress, the Deputy Commissioner directed to hold a regular meeting of DRSC every 3rd Saturday of the month.

The meeting was attended by Dhrubajyoti Das, ADC, Kamrup, Asif Ahmed, Additional Superintendent of Police, Rupjyoti Kalita District Transport Officer and senior officials of various departments, a press release said.
