Karam, one of the most important festivals of the Adivasis, was celebrated at Kasipathar under Lakhimpur district by Nawa Bihan Samaj(NBS) at its office campus.

LAKHIMPUR: Karam, one of the most important festivals of the Adivasis, was celebrated at Kasipathar under Lakhimpur district by Nawa Bihan Samaj(NBS) at its office campus. The programme was attended by the members of the NBS and the local people of the area. The pahan (priest) for the programme was George Tirkey of Ampara.

Notably, Karam is the most popular festival of the Adivasis celebrated with great festivities and pomp. The core meaning of the festival is that during this feast people pray to God (the Karam Raja) for the protection of the crops and to bestow peace and prosperity of the villages. The Karam festival is also classified as an agriculture festival. It is highly symbolic as it is also associated with the idea of productivity or fecundity.
