NAGAON: Arrival of newcomers as candidates in the five constituencies gives a new dimension to the politics of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) changed four of its party legislators as candidates this time. Dr Numal Mumim is the only BJP legislator contesting from his Bokajan seat for the second consecutive term.

Opposition Congress has all new faces, including recently joined BJP leader Sum Ranghang. Former Diphu Congress legislator Bidya Singh Engleng, who later joined the BJP, is contesting on BJP ticket this time. Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and its alliance parties will contest from all the five constituencies of the region. Senior party leader Chandra Kanta Terang will contest from Hauraghat this time. "Known faces are not there this time. In case of all the parties, former local council executive members are getting party tickets. Nandita Gorlosa as BJP candidate from Haflong, Ratan Teron as Congress candidate from Bokajan are some instances of that," said Denial Rangpi of Diphu.
