SILCHAR: Karimganj MLA Kamalakha Dey Purkayastha had sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the case of mysterious disappearance of Kajal Dutta, the driver of State's Minister Parimal Suklabaidya. Kajal had disappeared in August 2016, months after Suklabaidya was inducted in the first BJP led government in the State. Till now, Assam police had failed to trace Kajal, a resident of Dholai, the constituency Suklabaidya represents in the Assembly. Purkayastha had sent a memorendum to the PMO seeking Modi's intervention as he suspected mystery behind the inaction of the police. Kajal Dutta's mother had already filed a petition in Gauhati high court.

Purkayastha further alleged that crime branch of Assam police as well as Cachar police had been protecting two close aides of Suklabaidya whose name figured in the list of suspects in Burmese betel nut scam. Police had arrested a dozen suspects, but there was no step against Shashanka Sekhar Paul and Bhushan Paul, two close aides of Suklabaidya, Purkayastha further added. Shashanka is a Zila Parishad member as well as general secretary of BJP Cachar district while Bhushan is a Panchayat member. They both hail from Dholai.

It is to be noted that during the last Assembly election, the Congress raised the issue of Kajal's mystery disappearance. Even his mother was seen along with Purkayastha and Susmita Dev, then a Congress leader. However Suklabaidya won the election in good margin and the protest of Congress dried down.

Now Purkayastha once again raised the issue and even sought intervention of Prime Minister. Purkayastha said, he was vocal against the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and now he would target his Minister.
