Kati Bihu celebrated in Kokrajhar, Sivasagar, Golaghat

KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district administration celebrated Kati Bihu in Ghoskata village of Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. The programme was arranged by Agriculture Department and attended by senior officers of administration including Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka.

The programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka by lighting the Kati Bihu sky lantern. Deka participated with the public, agriculturalists, Agri Department officers in the traditional lamp lighting of more than 100 lamps and wished the farming community of Kokrajhar district for their best harvest year.

Earlier, in the afternoon, the district agriculture department organized an awareness meeting for the farmers on the occasion of Kati Bihu at the handloom and weaving centre of Ghoskata village under Fakiragram Agriculture Circle. The awareness meeting was presided over by District Agriculture Officer Burlung Buthur Narzary and inaugurated by Lawrence Islary, MLA from Kokrajhar East (ST) constituency.

Inaugurating the meeting, the MLA urged all farmers to adopt the schemes taken by the state as well as the BTR government to focus on production of new and improved agricultural products.

On the occasion, the MLA felicitated five progressive farmers of the district who have shown good results in the field of agriculture with appreciation certificates. The farmers who were felicitated were Ranjit Ray of Baldiyabathan, Ashwini Kumar Ray of Mukhi village, Nakul Kumar Brahma of Ghilaguri, Ranjan Brahma of Ghoskata and Moinul Haque of Chithilghop village.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Kr Das, District Agriculture Officer Burlung Buthur Narzary and senior UPPL leader Rabiram Brahma also delivered valuable speeches for the benefit of farmers in the meeting conducted by District Agriculture Information Officer Munin Das.

The meeting was attended by more than 500 farmers from the area, other UPPL leaders and officials of the agriculture department.

SIVASAGAR: In keeping with the Kati Bihu tradition and at the initiative of the office of District Agriculture Officer, Sivasagar, Kati Bihu was celebrated publicly at a sub-divisional level near the Sukanpukhuri Gohaingaon Namghar at Demow in the Sivasagar district on Tuesday.

Kati Bihu was celebrated with elaborate programmes in presence of Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav, in collaboration with the local farming community. District Information Officer Asif Bora and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Amrit Saikia delivered speeches on departmental schemes after District Agriculture Officer Balindra Nath Chetia delivered the welcome address at the event which started with a Borgeet.

Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav appealed to the farming community to move forward with the help of schemes of the agriculture department. Eleven progressive farmers from different agricultural circles of Sivasagar subdivision were felicitated on the occasion.

Many local dignitaries, including Munin Dihingia, Hiteshwar Borgohain, Binita Gogoi and others participated in the event. The Deputy Commissioner concluded the programme by lighting a lamp under a Tulsi plant in the paddy fields. District Agriculture Officer Balindra Nath Chetia thanked everyone for the successful implementation of the programme which witnessed a presence of about 200 farmers.

GOLAGHAT: Election Officer of Golaghat Election District, Sulakshana Borpatragohain; District Information & Public Relations Officer Pompi Devi and Research Technician of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), APART Project – Golaghat, Abhishek Singha joined the Kati Bihu celebration as invitees at Balidua Dhanani Pathar in Balidua village of the Golaghat district. At the outset of the event, Nitu Bora, one of the progressive farmers of the district, welcomed the invitees. After then, budding farmers of Balidua region felicitated them with phulam gamosa.

Sri Sri Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami, Xatradhikar of Sri Sri Auniati Xatra, Majuli, extended his greetings on the occasion of Kati Bihu. He said that the light of earthen lamps lit on the occasion of Kati Bihu would drive out all evils from the society and herald an age of prosperity and growth in the agricultural sector of the State. He hoped that observance of Kati Bihu would strengthen peace, unity and brotherhood among all sections of the society. Padma Shri Jadav Payeng - The Forest Man of India- greeted everyone on the occasion of Kati Bihu.

Sulakshana Borpatragohain, Pompi Devi and Abhishek Singha lit ceremonial earthen lamps in front of a Tulsi sapling and after that along with the farmers of Balidua region, offered their prayers by singing religious hymns. The huge green paddy field was illuminated with several hundred earthen lamps which were kept ready by farmers. The elderly farmers of the Pachim Brahmaputra area also actively participated in the celebration.
