Dibrugarh: Minister for Water Resources, Science and Technology Department Keshab Mahanta while attending the review meeting with the officials of Water Resources Department here at DC’s conference room on Thursday, stressed the need to complete all ongoing work in different flood and erosion prone areas in the district before forthcoming rainy season.
Reviewing the progress and present status of work initiated by the Water Resources Department in 15 very sensitive and 34 sensitive areas, Mahanta discussed at length with Prasanta Phukan, Teros Gowala, Rituparna Barua and Naren Sonowal, MLAs of Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Lahowal and Nahorkotia LACs respectively besides Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha about additional steps, that should be taken for protection of these areas. The minister asked the Water Resources Department to start both projects initiated by the department for protection of Bogoritolia and Rohmoria areas under Lahowal LAC.
The minister after a detailed discussion with the contractors engaged in such flood and erosion protection works in the district, had directed Superintendent of Police ,Sreejeet T to take all necessary measures so that contractors will not face any problems in transporting raw materials, machineries and labourers needed for completion of such projects.
Mahanta also asked the officials of Water Resources Department to keep in touch with the respective revenue circle officers and officer in-charge of police stations for smooth execution of project work. Lauding Deputy Commissioner Jha’s sincere efforts to complete all flood and erosion projects prior to rainy season, Mahanta, called upon Jha for regular personal inspection of all ongoing projects in the district.
