TEZPUR: At a time when both the State and the Central governments are launching scheme after scheme for the development of every section of the society, a wobbly wooden bridge continues to pose a threat for the people of Khanamukh area under Rangapara LAC in Sonitpur district.

The condition of the wooden bridge constructed over the Marabharali is so deplorable that thousands of people who use this bridge every day face a lot of inconvenience. In the time of medical emergency, it is difficult for even an ambulance to pass through the bridge. Due to poor communication link, this constituency is lagging far behind than other areas in terms of development. Besides, this year's flood has worsened the situation.

"Patients during medical emergency cannot be taken to the health centre on time due to the deplorable condition of the bridges and patients often die on the way to the hospital," alleged local people. Villagers of Rajgarh, Garhali Chapori, Bokagaon Nonkey and Baligaon and students of Khanamukh High School and Chirawani Primary School use this bridge for communication. "Even after 73 years of Independence, we still have to depend on a dilapidated wooden bridge," said a villager.

The people of Khanamukh and Garhali areas have urged the government and Tezpur MP to take steps to construct a concrete bridge in place of the wooden bridge.
