BOKAJAN: With the second phase of Assembly polls coming to an end on Thursday, the Khatkhati police arrested two youths for possession of an illegal firearm along the Assam-Nagaland inter-State border on Friday. Based on specific information, the police intercepted two youths riding a Scooty in the Sunday Bazaar area adjacent to Nagaland border. On frisking the youths and checking their Scooty, the police recovered one 7.65 pistol with two live ammunition from the vehicle.

Police arrested both the youths and also seized the two-wheeler in connection. The arrested duo has been identified as NikotoSwo (25) and ArunatoSwo (26). Both are residents of New Colony under East Police Station in Dimapur.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was brought for sale in the area and further investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause for possessing the illegal weapon," a police officer said. The operation was conducted under the leadership of APS John Das, SDPO Bokajan, and was assisted by CI Barpathar Insp. BhupenKalita, OC Khatkhati S.I (UB) Mwblik Brahma and staff.
