Khel Maharan concludes in Sonitpur district of Assam

TEZPUR: Sonitpur district concluded the district-level competition of Khel Maharan 2023, a prestigious event that ran from January 5th to 7th, 2024, culminating on January 7. This extravaganza witnessed the spirited participation of 1,080 talented athletes who showcased their prowess across five distinguished sports disciplines.

The event resonated with fervour as athletes competed in football (A-19 men, under-19 boys and girls), volleyball (A-19 men and women, under-19 boys and girls), kho-kho (under-19 boys and girls), Kabaddi (under-19 boys and girls, under-19 boys and girls), and athletics (under-19 boys and girls, under-19 men and women), encapsulating the essence of sportsmanship and competitive zeal.

Across various venues, each exuding its own unique aura, the stages were set for exceptional displays of talent. Dhekiajuli Sports Association Playground hosted the captivating athletics event on January 6, 2024, graced by the esteemed presence of the Hon'ble Minister of Assam Government, Shri Ashok Singhal, as the Chief Guest, alongside the distinguished District Commissioner of Sonitpur.

At the Bihorguri Mini Stadium in Tumuki, the ardour of A-19 and U-19 boys' football was palpable. MP Pallab Lochan Das inaugurated this spirited sports discipline, witnessing the remarkable matches held from January 5th to 6th, 2024, in the esteemed company of the district commissioner of Sonitpur.

Simultaneously, the eidgah field in Tezpur reverberated with the excitement of Kabaddi and Kho-kho competitions on January 6th and 7th, 2024, inaugurated by Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava.

Noteworthy was the Women-19 Football event at the Polo Field, Tezpur, graced by eminent dignitaries, including the Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, District Commissioner, Sonitpur, DIG Northern Range (Tezpur), CEO Zilla Parishad, Sonitpur, President of Tezpur District Sports Association, and District Sports Officer Pranjal Dehingia.

Meanwhile, the Hazarapar Stadium stood witness to the thrilling volleyball matches held on January 6th and 7th, inaugurated by Pranjal Dehingia, District Sports Officer, Sonitpur.

The grandeur of this sporting extravaganza reached its pinnacle at the Hazarapar Stadium during the closing ceremony on the evening of January 7, 2024. The event was graced by luminaries, including Kausar Jamil Hilaly, IAS, Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, as the Chief Guest, and Prodip Timung, ACS, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, as the esteemed guest of honour. Notable dignitaries such as the district commissioner, CEO Zilla Parishad, Sonitpur, Additional District Commissioner Kabita Kakoti Konwar, Assistant Commissioner Irish Arman Hussain, TDA Chairman, President of Tezpur District Sports Association, among others, added lustre to this prestigious occasion, as conveyed by Pranjal Dehingia, District Sports Officer, Sonitpur.
