Kidnapped Oil Employees Likely to be Released, Family Grateful to Paresh Baruah

On February 21, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi urged Amit Shah to take action for the safe release of the two oil sector staff from the clutches of ULFA (I).

GUWAHATI: In what it could be a breather for the family members of the abducted Quippo employees as a ray of hope came in when the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) decided to spare the lives of the employees.

Meanwhile, hearing the news one of the kidnapped employees Pranab Gogoi's wife and daughter thanked (ULFA-I) chief Paresh Baruah.

According to reports, Pranab Gogoi's family members including his wife and daughter thanked a local media house in Guwahati for constantly sharing news and for talking with ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah.

"I thank Paresh Baruah for sparing my father. I am very happy after getting this news. My last request is to immediately release my father," said Pranab Gogoi's daughter.

It is to be mentioned that earlier on February 21, through a phone call, ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah informed that they have halted their plans of taking strong action on the two abducted employees after talks between the ULFA-I and the Assam government.

Both the employees were kidnapped from the Kumchaikha drilling site near Innao in Changlang district.

According to officials of the private oil company, the armed men proceeded to Ningru Reserve Forest with the abducted oil company employees on a fateful day.

Ulfa(I) on the other hand, demanded Rs 20 crore in ransom from the company for the release of the oil workers.

It is to be mentioned that earlier in December 2020, the oil workers were kidnapped from the Kumchaikha drilling site near Innao in Changlang district.

Changlang, on the Indo-Myanmar border, is one of the three disturbed districts in Arunachal Pradesh where the Armed Forces Special Powers Act is still in force. ULFA (I) and factions of the NSCN have a presence in the area. Earlier, a statement from NSCN(I-M) claimed baseless reports suggesting their involvement in the abduction.
