Haflong: Various line departments discussed regarding the organizing of Kisan Mela under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan project to make farmers aware about efficient use of water for agriculture and other sources, at the CEM’s conference hall in Haflong on Friday.
The meeting was presided over by the principal secretary, NCHAC, Rupak Kumar Majumder, along with council secretaries Zovi Nampui and Thai Tso Daolagupu.
Officers of the departments like agriculture, forest, irrigation, PHE, fisheries, irrigation, PWD, soil conservation, block development officers and information and public relations attended the meeting to chalk out plan in details for the upcoming Kisan Mela to be held at Haflong on September 3. It was decided that the venue of the Mela would be Haflong Lal Field opposite the office of the Haflong Municipalty Board.
Through this Mela, farmers will be made aware about how to use rainwater harvesting techniques and how to increase crop productivity. It is intended to promote efficient water use for irrigation, soil conservation and better choice of crops for water conservation.
There will be resource persons, experts and scientists who will not just present their lectures but also interact with the farmers. There will also be lectures and demonstrations by the experts in the field of resource conservation for sustainable agriculture and water conservation.
Out of 255 districts in India, Dima Hasao is the only district in Assam that has been shortlisted as a water-stressed district for which the Central Government, with the support of the departments, has undertaken the project of Jal Shakti Abhiyan with the objective for water conservation, rainwater harvesting and rejuvenation of natural water bodies.
