LAKHIMPUR: 'Bishua', the community festival of Koch Rajbongshi community of Assam, will centrally be celebrated for the first time ever in the history of North Assam this year. The day-long celebration of the festival will be conducted at Tyagkshetra of North Lakhimpur town on April 23, in connection with the 17th foundation day of the Lakhimpur district unit of All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU). The event has been organized by AKRSU in association with Lakhimpur district units of Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani, AKRSU and Koch Rajbongshi Sahitya Sabha.
This was declared by the reception committee president, Dilip Kumar Baruah, joint secretary Dipak Borah, Lakhimpur district unit Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani general secretary Bishnu Prashad Dutta while addressing a press conference convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Thursday in the presence of various prominent persons of the community.
Addressing the media persons, Dilip Kumar Baruah said that the agenda of the celebration of the festival would be kick-started with the conduction of the traditional Bishua Puja. The Puja will be performed by the Xatradhikar of Gharmora Xatra. It will be followed by the unfurling of 17 AKRSU flags to observe the 17th foundation day of the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization, lighting of ceremonial lamps, traditional attire competition. Then several cultural groups will showcase the traditional culture of the community regarding Bishua in the event. In the open session, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Bihpuriya MLA Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, AKRSU central committee president Puren Rai, general secretary Dibya Kumar Deka and other dignitaries of Koch Rajbongshi frontal organizations will be present as guests of honour while Koch Rajbongshi Cultural Society president Buddheswar Rai will grace the occasion as appointed speaker.
On the other hand, Dipak Borah, who is also the joint secretary of the central committee of AKRSU, said that in the same event, six awards would be conferred to six prominent personalities of the Koch Rajbongshi who tremendously contributed to the growth of AKRSU and the development of the community. These awards have been titled as Viswa Mohaveer Chilarai Award, Kamata Ratna Ambikacharan Choudhury Award, Sahitya Ratna Arun Kumar Rai Award, Jana-Neta Sarat Singha Award, Purna Narayan Singha Award and Kabirai Pradhani Award. He added that an online quiz competition and instant essay writing and drawing competition on Viswa Mohaveer Chilarai had also been organized among the students on the occasion.
