Kokrajhar celebrates National Statistics Day, 2023

KOKRAJHAR: As the whole nation observed the National Statistics Day, 2023 with the theme “Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for monitoring sustainable development Goals”, the Assam Academy of Mathematics, Kokrajhar Branch, also observed the National Statistics Day, 2023 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalonobis along with the birth anniversary of Ashutosh Mukherjee in association with the World Society of Mathematical Sciences, Bipin Bihari M. E. School, Kokrajhar, IQAC & the Department of Statistics, Kokrajhar Govt. College, Kokrajhar at Bipin Bihari M. E. School, Kokrajhar on Thursday.

Teachers and students from various institutions of the locality participated in the programme. As many as 100 participants attended the programme. The programme started with the welcome address by the Headmaster, Prasenjit Debnath of Bipin Bihari ME School. The illumination of lamp and garlanding to the portrait of Prasanta Chandra Mahalonobis and Ashutosh Mukherjee were performed by the president Dr. Shibu Basak, of the Assam Academy of Mathematics, Kokrajhar Branch followed by offering floral tribute to the portraits by all the students and teachers present. The president of the Academy, Dr. Shibu Basak emphasized upon the fact that arrangement of such programmes help root out the fear psychosis of learning mathematics and statistics. In the programme, Dr. Mukunda Dewri of Bodoland University and Soma Dewanjee of Kokrajhar Government College enlightened the audience on the life and works of the two legends. The Head of the Department of Statistics, Smritimayee Sarma of Kokrajhar Govt. College addressed the gathering to create awareness on the subject of Statistics.

The students present in the programme enjoyed a lot while participating in two competitions, Extempore Speech and Quiz Competition on Mathematics. Sipra Mazumder, Block Resource Person, Kokrajhar Block, Sanjit Kr. Sil, Assistant Teacher, Salakati High School, Salakati and Ashok Saha, Asstt. Professor, Department of Mathematics, Kokrajhar Govt. College, Kokrajhar played key roles in successful completion of extempore speech competition. Susmita Sarkar of class-X of Salakat High School bagged first prize, Bedaprakash of class-IX of D. N. Himatsingka High School and Antara Sarkar of class- IX of Salakat High School and Suraj Debnath of class- VI of Bipin Bihari M. E. School bagged third prize.
