Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka to receive Jal Prahari Samman

KOKRAJHAR: Bringing yet another moment of pride to Assam, Assam's daughter Varnali Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar has now been selected for two national level honours, this time for efforts and innovations in the water sector under her leadership.

Deka has been invited by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to the 3rd National Water Award to be held on March 29 at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi to be graced by the President of India. This is in recognition of the innovative works and convergences done in the water sector from September 2019 to January 2021. She was serving as Goalpara DC at the time. It is further a matter of honour and joy, Deka has been selected for Jal Prahari Samman, 2022 giving due recognition to her efforts at the highest level. She was selected for this award by a selection committee headed by the former Chief Justice of India and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi for her innovative and unique ideas, convergences and projects resulting in water conservation, water use efficiency in agriculture, convergences in livelihood options, creating Jan Bhagidari in the water sector etc.

Deka will be felicitated as a water warrior of 2022 at the Jal Prahari Samaroh, 2022 on March 30 by the Union Jal Shakti Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at the Constitution Club, New Delhi. The event is being organized by Sarkaritel along with the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Jal Jeevan Mission, Government of India.
