Kokrajhar Tribal Girls Rape-Murder Case: All Accused Persons Arrested; Chargesheet Filed

GUWAHATI: Police have arrested all the accused persons in connection with rape and murder of two girls in Kokrajhar district three months ago. The chargesheet was filed by the police on Tuesday.

Two teenage tribal girls (both sisters), aged 14 and 16, were found hanging from a tree in a village under Kokrajhar police station on June 11. Police later confirmed that the girls were raped and murdered. On June 13, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the family of the deceased girls. The chief minister had also directed the Assam police to speed up the investigation and nab all the culprits involved in the heinous crime.

During his visit, he had told media persons that the girls, as per the investigation of the police, were either killed or they ended their lives under duress. He spoke to the Inspector General of Police of BTR and Kokrajhar superintendent of police regarding the matter and told them to expedite the probe. The girls' family said the girls had no reason to commit suicide. The family also claimed the girls were raped and then murdered.

The chief minister on that day also made it clear that the government would not tolerate any kind of torture or atrocities on the poor and downtrodden.

Special DGP L. R. Bishnoi shared about the success of the police of arresting all the accused on Twitter on Tuesday. He said under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's constant guidance, police have managed to nab all the accused persons of the murder case. A 858-page chargesheet has been filed by the police regarding the matter, he said.
