TEZPUR: Sonitpur District Agriculture Department and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Sonitpur inaugurated a two day long Krishak Mela and Agricultural Commodities Exhibition at the premises of the Hem Baruah Smriti Bhawan. Deputy Commissioner Sonitpur Deba Kumar Mishra inaugurated the Krishak Mela in the presence of president of the Sonitpur Zila Parishad, Dolly Surin, Chief Executive Officer of Sonitpur Zilla Parishad, Karabi Saikia, Joint Director of Agriculture (North Zone) Pabitra Sarma, District Agricultural Officer, Pankaj Saikia, Executive Engineer (Agriculture) Prasanajit Saikia, other officials and two hundred farmers of the district.
DC Mishra inspected the shops and interacted with the participants of the exhibition. The farmers fair, which is a major platform for farmers in Sonitpur district, includes exhibition of agricultural horticultural crops, technical seminars, farmer training, distribution of crop insurance policies and distribution of agricultural machinery. In the nursery category, several leading nurseries in the district participated. Various types of flower seedlings, indoor plants and medicinal tree seedlings are available. The exhibition was graced by various products produced by the farmers of the district, especially 21 kg of local pumpkin produced without any chemicals in the fields of Sheikh Muddasir Alam of Tengabasti of Deputa Agriculture Circle, 15 kg of local Pumpkin produced without any chemicals. Jamini Kalita, a female farmer of Kaliabhomora Farmers Producers Company, attracted the attention of everyone with her black rice. The pesticides prepared by female farmer Mridula Saikia of Milanpur in Sonitpur district were treated with tobacco water, detergent shop water, lime water and neem water for treating chilly, lemon and papaya trees.
In addition, a farmers’ meeting was conducted by Joint Director of Agriculture (North Division) Pabitra Sarma, who mentioned about various government schemes available for establishment of agriculture, livestock and agricultural products related industries and urged the farmers to take advantage of government schemes. Earlier, power tillers with rupees 85 thousand subsidy were distributed among three selected farmers and pitha khunda machines free of cost were distributed among three other selected farmers under the National Agriculture Development Scheme.
