Krishi Mela Held to Create Awareness about Jal Shakti Abhijan in Haflong

Haflong: Under Jal Shakti Abhijan, a day-long Krishi Mela was organized by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council along with the line departments at Haflong Municipal Board field (Lal field). BB Hagjer, local MLA, attended the programme as the chief guest while Nandita Gorlosa, Executive Member, i/c Education, attended as the guest of honour.

The exhibition was inaugurated jointly by EM Nandita Gorlosa and MLA Hagjer in presence of other dignitaries. The main objective of the exhibition was to create awareness about the Jal Shakti Abhijan among the people of Dima Hasao. After felicitation of the distinguished guests, a welcome song was presented by renowned singer Rajesh Bathari.

Chief guest BB Hagjer spoke at length about the topographical location of Dima Hasao district and downward graphical trend of water crisis from his childhood till date. EM Nandita Gorlosa, who also represented CEM Debolal Gorlosa, urged the farmers to grab every opportunity being provided under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and requested cooperation of the people in this mission.

During his welcome address, Principal Secretary, NCHAC, Rupak Kr. Majumdar spoke on the water conservation mission in this district and informed that technical personnel had been involved to study the water problem and to initiate action for conserving water for the future.

Two scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Diphu, Dr. Subal Maibangsa, and Nalim Kalita, spoke about the alarming water crisis and the necessity for water conservation and rain water harvesting.

The programme was also attended by Dibakar Nath, Assistant Secretary, Government of India, who in his speech urged the farmers to grow less water requiring crop varieties and to use water conservation techniques.
