Krishi Vigyan Kendra observed 'World Food Day' in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh observed World Food Day at Janjimukh Village under Barboruah block on Saturday. Altogether 52 participants took part in the programme.

Babua Ram Taye, a retired teacher of the village in his address encouraged women for better production, consumption and storage of foodstuffs.

Hemchandra Saikia, an expert in Agricultural Economics of KVK while delivering his speech, emphasized on balanced diet and urged participants for having balanced diet. He also laid stress on less wastage and proper storage of food besides incorporation of locally available vegetables in meals.

To mark the day, a cooking competition on pitha (Pan cake) preparation was held among the participants in which 20 of them took part. Different pithas "angoli pita, bhapot diya pitha, til pitha, ghila pitha and many others were prepared.

Dr Supriya Sonowal, SMS, Tea Husbandry and Technology and Dr. Sudeshna Barua, SMS, Horticulture evaluated the products and prizes distributed to winners. Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Sangeeta Borah Saikia, Programme Assistant Community Science who made the people aware about the aim of the programme and emphasized on proper utility of foodstuffs without wastage. Dr Sudhesna Baruah offered the vote of thanks.
