Krishi Vigyan Kendra organize an awareness on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yajana

DIBRUGARH: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dibrugarh of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) located at Kordoibam of Lahoal Development block organized a day-long awareness programme on the various important aspects of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yajana at Kopohuwa gaon of Tegakhat development block for the welfare of its farming community.

Addressing the gathering of farmers and farm women, Dr.Hemchandra Saikia, the course director of the programme highlighted vividly about what is Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yajana, who is implanting this crop insurance scheme, the crops covered by the scheme, risk or damaged covered by the scheme, how to avail the benefit of this scheme, documents required, when to register, how to register, when to report for claiming for damage etc. He also mentioned that damages of paddy crop due to various natural calamities like flood, drought, cyclone, hurricane, landslide, severe damage of diseases and insect pest, natural fire etc in addition to prevented sowing, mid season adversities and post harvest losses due to adverse climatic condition or calamities can be insured by paying Rs.100 per hectare of cultivated area. But for availing the due benefit of claim for damage time reporting of activities and its proper documentation are very essential and the last date of application for insuring paddy crop is December 31. He also highlighted about some key aspects of improved method of Sali paddy cultivation for the benefit of paddy farmers so that their income can be enhanced to a desirable level.

The programme was financially supported by Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Guwahati office of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Altogether 50 farmers and farm women participated in the programme.
