Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur organized Poshan Vatika Mahabhiyan along with tree plantation programme on Friday.

TEZPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur organized Poshan Vatika Mahabhiyan along with tree plantation programme on Friday. Dr Arifa Momtaz Begum, in charge Head of KVK, Sonitpur welcomed all the dignitaries and participants and briefed about the objective of organizing the programme.

She emphasized on inclusion of millet and millet based products in our diet. Bakul Roy, instructress of Anganwadi Training centre, Tezpur acted as resource person and elaborately discussed about malnutrition and ways to overcome it.

She also discussed about the ways to minimize nutrient loss during processing and cooking. Morjina Begum, president, Napam Gaon Panchayat emphasized on the role of plantation for successful livelihood. President of Parbatia Gaon Panchayat Jamini Kalita in her speech mentioned about the importance of establishing nutrition garden in the household as well as public places.

Naba Sarmah, a social worker and Secretary of Mahila Morcha, Sonitpur explained about the health benefits of locally available indigenous fruits and vegetables. In connection with the national campaign on International Year of Millets 2023, Poshan Vatika Mahaabhiyan and tree plantation, seeds of some vegetables provided by NEH component were distributed to the participants. Saplings of fruits and some medicinal plants were also distributed.
