Krishna Janmashtami celebrated across Lakhimpur district

The people of Lakhimpur celebrated Janmashtami or Shri Krishna Janmotsav or Krishnasthami with religious fervour across the district.

LAKHIMPUR: The people of Lakhimpur celebrated Janmashtami or Shri Krishna Janmotsav or Krishnasthami with religious fervour across the district. On this occasion, the namghar, xatras of the district became sonorous with the chanting of Hari Nam- the holy name of God- Shri Krishna.

On the occasion of the religious festival, devotees organized nam-kirtan. On Friday, the festival was observed with spiritual fervour at Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Baishnav Peeth of the northeast, located at Dhakuakhana subdivision. On this occasion, devotees from the native district and other districts of the State thronged the xatra to offer their obeisance to Lord Krishna in the Basudev Bigraha.

On the other hand, Janmashtami was observed at Shri Shri Sitaramji Thakurbari located at North Lakhimpur town with a three-day long programme since Thursday. On Thursday, the agenda of the event began with the showcase of Lord Krishna's life and activities by children artistes, from the birth to his departure from this mortal world to the heavenly abode. On Friday, devotees and children presented musical items of chanting the holy name and devotional song. The event will conclude on Saturday with Nanda Mahotsav.
