JAMUGURIHAT: It is a positive aspect that the younger generation of athletes is being helped in sports through many small and large sports projects. There is a lack of sports infrastructure in the stadium under the Tinsukia District Sports Association. National Human Rights and Crime Control Bureau chairman Nishant Thard recently informed the Chief Minister of Assam in a letter about the issue.
In a press statement, Mrinmay Kumar Nath, State Media Officer of the organization, said that although Tinsukia is a district rich in bright and talented youths, there is much to be done to ensure the future of those talents.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, the organization said the stadium is in a poor condition due to lack of volleyball courts, basketball courts and table tennis boards. Surprisingly, the players have to drink water from the only tube well inside the stadium. There is no clean drinking water for the players. The organization said it was disappointed that the tube well is the only source of water in the stadium at a time when schemes like ‘Har Ghar Shuddh Pani’ under the Jal Jeevan Mission are being implemented to provide clean water to the people.
This system not only compromises player health and safety, but also hinders the creation of an overall sporting environment. The organization expressed that it is imperative that youths in every district, including Tinsukia, have access to the resources and opportunities they need to grow. So, it is necessary to provide essential sports infrastructure such as volleyball court, basketball court, table tennis board etc. to the district level stadium to play a special role in developing sports talent of the youths of Tinsukia.
The present condition of the football field is also not good. The organization alleged that the poor condition of the stadium indicates the failure of the officials concerned. The National Human Rights and Crime Control Bureau hoped that the Assam Government would ensure the allocation of funds for the stadium and use the funds allocated to create a healthy and strong sports en vironment.
