TINSUKIA: Laika-Dodhia forest villagers who have been agitating since the past 35 days over relocation issue in makeshift camps near the DC's office, have suspended their agitation following two rounds of discussion with a high power sub-committee headed by State Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan in Tinsukia on Thursday.

In a press meet at Circuit House, the minister stated that the forest villagers of Laika had agreed to move at Paharpur and Namphai as designated by the Tinsukia district administration while relocation of Dodhia people would take some more time as people objected to rehabilitation at Adarkhana in Lakhimpur as it was a flood-prone area. The PCCF &HoFF, Arvind Madhav Singh said that the clearance and concurrence from the MoEF&CC in respect of de-notifying the Namphai and Pararpur degraded RFs would take two weeks. The process has already begun.

The sub-committee members comprising minister Jogen Mohan, MLA of Dhemaji, Dr Ranuj Pegu, Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika, PCCF WL Dr Amit Sahai, PCCF&HoFF AM Singh and Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Diganta Saikia visited the camp at Lezaiholla and also interacted with the TMPK and other leaders.
