Lakhimpur COVID-19 patient dies at AMCH in Dibrugarh

With the coronavirus infection spiraling across the country taking away the lives of several persons in the State too, one person of Lakhimpur district died at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh on Sunday.

LAKHIMPUR: With the coronavirus infection spiraling across the country taking away the lives of several persons in the State too, one person of Lakhimpur district died at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh on Sunday. The person has been identified as Jiten Kakati, permanent resident of No. 1 Matia near Banderdewa under Dhaulpur Block Primary Health Center (BPHC) area.

The person was admitted at AMCH on Saturday for the advance treatment of his multiple health problems due to diabetes malitus. Then he was detected to be positive for coronavirus infection as per the result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). At AMCH, though due measures for the treatment of the person, in a critical condition, was taken, he breathed his last around 11 am on Sunday.

As soon as the news of the death of the person with COVID-19 positivity spread, a panic situation wreaked in the area. However, the District Health Department, in association with the health care workers under Dhalpur BPHC, conducted RAT upon 21 people of the area, including the family members of the person, who came to contact with him. Out of them no person was detected to be positive of COVID-19 as per the RAT results. The swabs of these people were also collected for Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RtPCR) Test.

These swab samples will be sent to AMCH for the RtPCR Test on Monday. The demise of the person has cast a pall of grief in the locality.

On the other hand, four more COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur district on Sunday. One of them has been identified as the daughter of Benjamin Orang, living at Ananda Tea Estate under Boginadi BPHC area. Benjamin Orang was found to be positive for coronavirus infection on Saturday.

On that day, Boginadi BPHC conducted RAT upon a total of 41 people who came to his close contact. On the other hand, one patient was detected under Dhalpur BPHC area while rest two patients were detected at North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. On Sunday, the Health Department conducted RAT upon a total of 2284 people across the district.

With the four newly detected patients the cumulative total of COVID-19 patients of the district has hiked to 8,065 since April 4 of the last year.

Of them, 7994 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 11 active cases at present. Notably, 60 people has died due to coronavirus infection in the district till the day.
