Lakhimpur DC stresses building strong network to control child protection issues

The 90-day campaign on ‘Suroxito Xaishab, Sonali Axom’ initiated by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Lakhimpur to raise awareness about various child protection issues, like child labour, child marriage, child trafficking child substance abuse etc., concluded with success on Tuesday.

LAKHIMPUR: The 90-day campaign on ‘Suroxito Xaishab, Sonali Axom’ initiated by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Lakhimpur to raise awareness about various child protection issues, like child labour, child marriage, child trafficking child substance abuse etc., concluded with success on Tuesday. The three-month long State Child Protection Society (SCPS) campaign was launched on June 12 commemorating the World Day against Child Labour.

To mark the conclusion of the campaign, DCPU-Lakhimpur organized a ceremonial programme in the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s Office. It began with the presentation made by Child Protection Officer Plabita Das. She also explained the objective of the programme. Assistant Commissioner of Lakhimpur-cum-District Child Protection Officer in-charge Jyotikona Chetia delivered the welcome address. On the other hand, Child Protection Officer Plabita Das and Data Analyst Hadi Mostafa Hussain made a power-point presentation about the activities done by the DCPU-Lakhimpur as parts of the 90-day campaign to combat child protection issues. Those activities were convergence meetings, signature campaign, mobile van campaign, staging of street play, hoarding installation, competition among school students, competition in Child Care Institutions, awareness meeting with media, social media campaign, awareness rally, children mela along with other various relevant activities. Taking part in the event, Lakhimpur District Legal Service Authority secretary Anup Khanal, DCPU-Lakhimpur chairperson Kanakeswar Deka Rajkonwar, District Labour Officer Brojen Borah, DSP (Headquarter) Deben Borah, Sub-Divisional Medical & Health Officer Dr. Queen Baruah delivered lecture by highlighting their departments’ activities done to reduce children’s issues.

Lakhimpur District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan attended the event as chief guest who thanked DCPU-Lakhimpur for the successful completion of the campaign. He suggested DCPU-Lakhimpur to build a strong network with representatives from the different section of the society to control child trafficking, child labour, child marriage, child abuse at the source point. He also suggested the same to continue the raising of awareness concerned among children as well as adults about the ill effects and consequences of the children’s issues and to access the gap and challenges in the implementation of the Acts and programmes concerned.
