LAKHIMPUR: "The frequent hike in the prices of petrol and other fuel items has hit the common people by increasing the cost of living. The common people have to suffer a lot due to the skyrocketing prices of fuel. But the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State have failed to control the increasing prices of petro-products and essential commodities and pushed the common people to face problems in their day-to-day life."

With this allegation, the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee on Saturday staged massive protest across the district against frequent hike in the prices of petro-products. The Congress flayed the Union and State governments in this connection.

In this regard, the Congress activists staged a two-hour long sit-in in front of the petrol depots located in different parts of the district. The brother-sister organizations of the political party like district bodies of the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, NSUI, and Sewa Dal extended full support to the agitation programmes. Along with the dignitaries of the District Congress Committee, Block-Mandal units and Mahila Congress, LDCC president Pradip Gogoi, former LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das, spokesman Prashanta Gogoi, District Youth Congress working president Pratyush Dutta, and NSUI secretary Sabir Mustaqim took part in the protest programmes in different places.
