Lakhimpur District Health Department observed World Hearing Day

World Hearing Day was observed by Lakhimpur District Health Department on Wednesday in association with Pratyay, a voluntary organization.

LAKHIMPUR: World Hearing Day was observed by Lakhimpur District Health Department on Wednesday in association with Pratyay, a voluntary organization.

The World Hearing Day is held on March 3 each year to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and to promote ear and hearing care across the world. This year, the theme of the event, as fixed by the World Health Organization, is 'Hearing care for all'. The event this year was marked by the launch of the first-ever World Report on Hearing. Through the global launch of the report, the World Health Organization has intended to reach, raise awareness with, and mobilize action among national governments, international NGOs and development agencies, as well as all stakeholders in the field of hearing care.

In Lakhimpur, a special awareness programme on this occasion was held in the office premises of Pratyay. The agenda of the event began with a procession with the participation of Divyang children. It was followed by garlanding of the portrait of Dr. Hemanta Kumar Dutta who played a leading role in the district to create awareness on hearing problem and to address the issue. He had passed away recently.

ENT Specialist Dr. Abhedya Kumar Buragohain chaired the awareness meeting which was held under the management of Dr. Dhruvajyoti Buragohain. Head of the Department of ENT of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Hiranya Borah, paediatrician Queen Baruah, Padma Shri Dr. Uddhav Kumar Bhorali, Kendriya Mahavidyalay Principal Dr. Golap Sarmah Baruah, and senior journalist Sailen Baruah took part in the programme as resource persons. Divyang children Aradhya Das, Dikshita Changmai presented Bihu dance in the programme while Raj Ahmed presented modern song.
