Lakhimpur District Legal Service Authority holds discussion on ragging and sexual harassment at workplace

The Lakhimpur District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) on Thursday held two series of discussions with Lakhimpur Commerce College on the issues relating to anti-ragging mechanisms in colleges and on sexual harassment at workplace.

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) on Thursday held two series of discussions with Lakhimpur Commerce College on the issues relating to anti-ragging mechanisms in colleges and on sexual harassment at workplace.

The event was held in the conference hall of the Principal’s office of the college. It was chaired by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college, and was attended by Vice Principal GK Chetry, Professors Purabi Dutta Hazarika, Dr. Sikha Moni Borgohain, Dr. Biva Dutta and Professor Mrinali Pegu of the Anti-Sexual Harassment at Workplace Cell of Lakhimpur Commerce College and Prof. Deep Jan Gohain and Prasanta Bora of the Anti-Ragging Cell of the college.

The secretary of DLSA-Lakhimpur, Anup Khanal attended the meeting as the resource person. He asked the college authority to ensure a ragging-free campus and make the female employees feel secure from any kind of harassment and inappropriate treatment at their workplace. The Principal of the college, Dr Lohit Hazarika, while ensuring the requirements as suggested by DLSA-Lakhimpur, informed that the college already has an anti-ragging cell as per the directive of the Supreme Court and an Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell to address the issues concerned. In the meeting, the DLSA-Lakhimpur was also represented by Sikha Bhuyan, Manoj Saikia, advocate Rim Deka Hazarika and others.
