LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) expressed strong reaction over the statement made by Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan regarding AASU's alleged support in setting up of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP).
Notably, Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan was reported to have said in the budget session of the Assam Assembly on Thursday that the AASU had extended support to set up the SLHP at Gerukamukh.
In this context, general secretary of the Lakhimpur district unit of AASU, Simanta Neog stated before the mediapersons in North Lakhimpur, "We have strongly opposed to the statement made by Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan. It is known to the people of the State that the AASU has resorted to stir against SLHP since the day it was set up. Under such circumstances, there is no question of AASU's support in connection with the setting up of the big river dam project."
On the other hand, State executive member of AASU, Dhanmoni Dutta came down heavily on Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan regarding the issue. "Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan has deluded the people of the State by making the statement. He has no right to make statement on AASU as he is an expelled leader of the organization. People of Bihpuriya elected him to render development in the constituency, not to support the SLHP. He has no idea about the activities of the AASU regarding the SLHP," Dhanmoni Dutta added while elaborating about the AASU's consecutive programmes of stir opposing SLHP.
