LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) expressed resentment against the district administration and the Food and Civil Supply Department office of the district for talking no action against a commercial institution, named Arya City Mart, which had charged exorbitant prices for essential commodities. In this connection, the organization re-submitted memorandum to Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of the district, demanding action against the commercial institution. On the same issue, the organization submitted separate memorandum to the Chief Minister too
Notably, the Lakhimpur district MASS, on April 29, submitted a memorandum to Khageswar Pegu, the then Deputy Commissioner of the district, demanding action against Arya City Mart which had been selling essential commodities at exorbitant prices. In the memorandum, the organization alleged that the commercial institution had exploited and looted the common consumers by charging exorbitant prices on essential commodities and violating the recommended prices of the essential commodities as fixed by the district administration. In support of the allegation, the organization submitted due proof and the recommended price list along with the memorandum. Though the then Deputy Commissioner instructed the Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supply Department of the district to take strict action against the commercial institution, immediately after the memorandum was submitted, no action was taken against the same till date.
By re-submitting the memorandum, Lakhimpur MASS demanded the Deputy Commissioner to cancel the license of the commercial shop for a year.
