LAKHIMPUR: Opposing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, the people of Katori Chapori under Boginadi Police Station of Lakhimpur district organized a protest programme at Katari Chapori Dhanpur Ranga Mancha premises on Sunday.
Taking part in the protest programme, the people of the area shouted slogans and displayed placards against the Act and declared their stand not to accept it under any circumstance. Youth activist and AKRSU leader Jayanta Rajkhowa delivered speech opposing the Act and severely criticizing the BJP-led government regarding the issue. A businessman of the area, Pramod Hazarika also delivered lecture in the programme protesting against the Act. He opined that the people of the State would boycott the BJP for passing the contentious Act, thereby causing threatsto the existence of the Assamese community.
Notably, Pramod Hazarika initiated a day-long hunger strike at the Ranga Mancha premises on Saturday demanding the scrapping of the CAA and the release of all anti-CAA agitators who were arrested by police across the State. In the same protest programme, several persons of the area delivered speech opposing the Act.
