NEW DELHI : An announcement by the CBI has spiced up the political scenario in Bihar. The Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) has reopened the corruption case against the former Bihar chief minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, giving rise to a political controversy.
The case has been recommenced on Monday, after a year when CBI itself declared a closure, as no valid evidence came forth against Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family.
Lalu Yadav was charged with the allegation of receiving properties in exchange of allotting various important projects to Delhi Land and Finance (DLF), which is a real estate developer. Yadav was accused for his actions while he was in charge of the Railway Ministry in UPA-1 government.
In 2018, the CBI claimed that he took properties in crores in South Delhi from the DLFs. The projects that were issued by Yadav included the reconstruction of the New Delhi Railway station. Along with Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son Tejashwi Prasad who is currently appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, was also considered as one of the prime accused.
Lalu Yadav's daughters, Chanda Yadav and Ragini Yadav were also charged by the CBI in relation with the matter.
Is is worth mentioning that, CBI has reopened the controversial corruption case, following the resignation of CM Nitish Kumar, and his new alliance with Janata Dal United (JDU).
However, the case was declared 'close' in the year 2021 against Lalu and his family. This was because the CBI couldn't get hold of any valid evidence against him.
The former Bihar chief minister, was accused by the CBI once again, for taking land as bribes from job aspirants. He took these lands in the name of providing employment in the railway department. He allegedly did this while he was the railway minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by Congress.
