DIBRUGARH: Police, keeping track of confidential inputs, had busted a gang of land brokers and arrested 17 of them from different parts of the district.
Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra told media persons that the police arrested these 17 persons from Lahowal, Borbaruah, Khowang, Moran, Naharkotiya, Jaypur and other parts of the district on charges of their involvement in criminal conspiracy, act of counterfeiting, deception and misuse of prevailing rules. He further stated that the police had already listed 25 such criminals in the district and vouched to take legal action against all of them and others who are patronizing such land brokers for initiating unlawful activities.
Those arrested by police on charges of land grabbing as brokers from different parts of the district are - Bipul Boruah alias Bhatiam, Hazrat Ali, Himat Ali alias Bul, Vikash Saikia, Bitupan Gogoi, Faruk Hussain, Santanu Devnath, Bijay Saikia, Monoj Boruah alias Boon, Poona Borpatra, Safiqul Hoque, Sanjiv Das, Lakhi Phukan, Abdul Haque Dewan, Mridu Singha, Sunil Gogoi and Gopal Gogoi.
Police registered a case (case No 1827/21) under section 120 (B), 468/471/409/406 and 420 of Indian Penal Code. Police later sent all the arrested land brokers to judicial custody.
SARUPATHAR : Earlier this month, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned the land revenue department officers that land-related issues of the public must be resolved without the public having to bribe brokers.
In this regard, the Assam police arrested over 520 land brokers in raids conducted across the State since Monday night as part of the crackdown on land dalals or brokers operating in land revenue and circle offices.
Apart from this, three land brokers have been taken into custody by Assam police from the Sarupathar circle office in Dhansiri subdivision under Golaghat district and they were identified as Manik Ghosal, Rajen Gohain, and Hiralal Shill. Speaking on the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Twitter, "This notorious practice of brokers/ dalals in revenue offices harassing commoners must end. Our fight against nefarious activities will go on relentlessly." The land brokers detained will be interrogated for further investigation.
