Land Mafia Nazrul Islam Injured in Police Encounter

Notably, over 1000 migrant Muslim families were evicted from the Lumding forest, who were brought by land mafia Nazrul and company.

GUWAHATI: Land mafia identified as Nazrul Islam was shot at by Lumding police after he tried to escape from their custody while being taken to the Lumding reserve forest.

As per reports, Nazrul was taken to the reserve forest by the police to track another land mafia associated with him.

After reaching the forest, Nazrul dragged the pistol from the police and tried to escape from police custody by firing a bullet.

The police then fired on his leg to defend themselves while he was trying to escape.

Earlier, Nazrul was arrested on November 16 and was in police custody for 3 days.

Notably, over 1000 migrant Muslim families were evicted from the Lumding forest, who were brought by land mafia Nazrul and company for turmeric cultivation from 2007 onwards.

Earlier, the Hojai Police conducted an eviction drive where the name of Nazrul was disclosed by the people who had been evicted in the recently conducted drive. The people in the drive have also revealed the name of a person named Janaik Anuwar along with Najrul who was equally responsible for the illegal settlement of people for money carried out by Nazrul and others.

The name of Nazrul was also mentioned by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while he was discussing the earlier conducted eviction drive. The chief minister talked about Najrul's activities associated with establishing people illegally in the Lumding Reserve Forest for the benefit of money.
