Law students urged to take up leadership role in reforming legal system in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The CEM of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro on Saturday inaugurated the newly-built entrance gate of Kokrajhar Law College in the presence of MLA Lawrence Islary, political advisor to CEM Pramod Boro, Madhav Chandra Chetri and other dignitaries. Freshmen Social day of the college was also held on the day. BTC chief Pramod Boro called upon law students to take up leadership roles in reforming the legal system in BTC.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said the legal apparatus had become important to deliver justice to the people in need of legal help. He called upon the students of Kokrajhar Law College to lead the legal prospect of the region. He said the students of the college should take a leadership role in reforming the legal system in the region to streamline the legal aspects for the betterment of the society.

Boro said the Bodo and other tribal communities used to depend on the age-old tradition of practicing customary law and thus they did not give stress on the common legal system for which they witnessed various legal faults in criminal procedures. He announced Rs 1 crore for the infrastructure development including construction of a badminton court in the college.
