LAKHIMPUR: The 4th biennial session of the Telahi-Kamalaboria Jyeshthya Nagarik Sakha Sanmilan (Senior Citizens’ Association) was held with a day-long programme on Sunday. The event was organized in the conference hall of the Indoor Stadium, Panigaon OPD College.
The public meeting, organized on the occasion, commenced with president Nila Chutia in the chair. It was held under the management of secretary Dambaru Nath, who also explained the objective of the event. The public meeting was inaugurated by Tileswar Borah, the retired Principal of Bahpati-Azad Higher Secondary School. Then secretary Dambaru Nath read out the secretarial report of the organization by giving a detailed account on the activities of the organization during the past session.
Principal of Panigaon OPD College, Dr. Suresh Kumar Dutta graced the occasion as appointed speaker. He delivered his lecture by highlighting various activities, which could be conducted by Senior Citizens’ Association in academic, health and other related fields to bring changes in the society in positive direction. While delivering the presidential lecture, president Nila Chutia called upon the senior citizens to come forward to work for the betterment, welfare of the upcoming generation, to shape an ever-developing society with exemplary attitude and conviction. He said that leadership of senior citizens in developmental activities by transcending selfish interest to cause social transformation is the need of hour. The organization adopted resolution in the event to complete the construction of the organizational office immediately, to urge upon the government to resolve flood and some other burning problems, to introduce science stream in Panigaon OPD College. In the same event, the new executive body of the organization was formed with Nila Chutia as president and Dambaru Nath as secretary for the second time.
