DOOMDOOMA: The third commemorative meeting of leading trade unionist Girish Chandra Barpatra Gohain, who was a stout Gandhian follower, was observed at Girish Chandra Barpatra Gohain commemorative Bhaban, Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS) on Wednesday evening with President ACKS, Doomdooma Branch Umananda Dutta in the chair.

Arjun Baruah, president of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) lit the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of late Girish Chandra Barpatra Gohain while former tea employee Nihar Ranjan Das offered the floral tributes in front of his portrait. ACKS vice president Biren Adhyapak, TZXX president Arjun Baruah, Secretary, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha Deben Deka, Dr Nandanjyoti Barpatra Gohain and Apurba Barpatra Gohain, son and youngest brother of late Barpatra Gohain, Achyut Pujari and Shakarjit Singha dwelt on the life and achievements of late Barpatra Gohain who was secretary of ACKS central committee for long twenty years besides being lifetime secretary of the Doomdooma branch.

The meeting anchored by secretary of Doomdooma Branch Hitendra Baruah was attended by the secretaries and presidents of different garden units of the branch. Two children artistes - Kabyashri Chetia and Prabbhash Saikia - enthralled the audience by beautifully rendering two Borgeets. Dr Nandanjyoti Barpatra Gohain informed that a commemorative book on the life of late Barpatra Gohain who died of COVID on August 24, 2020 was under process and he sought the cooperation of all for that.
