GUWAHATI: The Assam State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu speaking about job opportunities for Assam youths said that the Hindi language plays a major role in the Indian job market therefore job seekers from the state must know Hindi.

The minister said that just because of the lack of endorsement of the Hindi language in Assam, the eligible youths face challenges in finding the desired jobs in the Hindi-speaking Indian states.

Pegu further stated that not knowing the Hindi language is a big barrier for students and it is also hampering the entire state to a large extent.

The state Education Minister made the following remark while addressing the reporters at the CPA mid-year executive committee meeting session held in Guwahati on Saturday.

He said that learning a language is a skill and it is equally significant as getting a certificate or degree but job seekers in Assam are lacking in this skill.

This is the reason they are unable to find a favourable job in the Indian job market mainly in the states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat said Pegu.

He also said that opting just for the fourth-grade jobs in South India will not bring success for the youths from Assam.

During his interaction with the media, Pegu also informed that the state government is making plans to urge the central university MGAHV (Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya) to open its campus in Assam so that students learn the Hindi language.

According to the minister, there are several posts of Hindi teachers in Assam that are still vacant for the only reason that are not enough candidates eligible for the post.

It may be mentioned that earlier during the 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee, the Home Minister of India, Amit Shah said that people from various Indian states must communicate in Hindi and not in English.

He also said that the Hindi language should be used as an alternative to English and not local languages and Hindi needs to be made a lot more flexible.
