Lecture on nature-writing held at North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous)

North Lakhimpur College is the trailblazer with regard to practising the nature-writing in the State.

LAKHIMPUR: “North Lakhimpur College is the trailblazer with regard to practising the nature-writing in the State. The college has given a strong dimension to this neo-literary genre by holding relentless discussion for last six-seven years”, stated Soumyadeep Datta, the noted environmental activist of Assam.

Datta said so while taking part as the chief speaker in a lecture event organized at North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) on “Trend of Assamese nature-writing”. He further said that nature writing can play the pivotal role in spreading the consciousness about environmental conservation far and wide. “In this regard, the upcoming generation must shoulder the responsibility”, Datta added.

The lecture event, which was held under the auspices of the Department of Assamese of the college, was chaired by Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Head of the Department. “Nature writing is still neglected in Assamese literature like some other literary genres. The practice of nature writing should also be accelerated simultaneously with the worldwide movement of biodiversity conservation”, Dr. Rajkhowa said from the chair while delivering his lecture. Associate Professor of Anthropology at Kanoi College, Dibrugarh, Dr. Moromi Talukder, Nature’s Beckon member Jugot Hundique spoke about the importance of nature writing. On the other hand, North Lakhimpur College Associate Professor Dr. Dhana Ranjan Kalita, Assistant Professor Dr. Dhiraj Pator, researcher Pubali Borah took part in the discussion on the designated topic.
