Assam: Lecture on Developing Research for Social Benefits Held in Hajo's Suren Das College

HAJO: A lecture programme on developing research and development activities for social benefits was held in Suren Das College, Hajo on recently. The programme was a joint initiative of Suren Das College, Hajo and Mahendra Narayan Choudhury Balika Mahavidyalaya, Nalbari. The resource person for the programme was Prof Achintya N Bezbaruah, Gehrts Presidential Professor of Environmental Engineering and Department Chair, Civil Construction and Environment, North Dakota State University, USA Biswajit Kalita, Assistant Coordinator of I.Q.A.C., Suren Das College moderated the programme.

After the felicitation ceremony, the welcome speech was delivered by the Dr.Hiranya Sarma, Principal of Suren Das College. Dr.Gargee Chakraborty, Principal, Mahendra Narayan Choudhury Balika Mahavidyalaya also addressed the house. The resource person, Dr.Bezbaruah based his lecture on the need and efficacy of applied research for social benefits. The emphasis throughout the lecture was on collaborations amongst various disciplines to facilitate the process of doing research work for social and environmental causes. He also addressed the issue of rising arsenic level in the underground water bodies of Assam. The beauty of the lecture was that Prof.Bezbaruah had drawn references of many local environmental endeavours and also from Assamese folklore. Altogether around eighty participants from both the colleges attended the lecture programme and some of them had interactions with the resource person at the end of session. The programme came to end with the vote of thanks, offered by Tridip Thakuria, IQAC Coordinator, Mahendra Narayan Choudhury Balika Mahavidyalaya, Nalbari, stated a press release.
