Legal awareness camp held in Sonitpur district

A day-long legal awareness camp was held at Da-Beseriya village in the Sonitpur district.

TEZPUR: A day-long legal awareness camp was held at Da-Beseriya village in the Sonitpur district. The programme was organized by the Department of Law, Tezpur University in association with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sonitpur. The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Priya Ranjan Kumar, HoD of the Department of Law, Tezpur University.

The awareness camp began with the students calling the villagers by visiting their homes. Village headman Loson Nath, President of Naleswar Than Dhaniram Nath and Secretary Lokhinath Nath were also present.

A speech on legal awareness and related matters was delivered by Debajit Kumar Sarmah, assistant professor in the Department of Law, followed by another valuable speech by the HoD. Assistant professor Angel H. Syiem was also present in the awareness camp. Dr. Kumar talked about the importance of legal awareness and other legal remedies. To grab the attention of the villagers, a street play was performed by students of LLM 2nd semester and 4th semester of Tezpur University.

The play tried to shed light on various issues related to consumer rights including food adulteration, bank fraud and other online frauds. The students also delivered speeches on eve-teasing, child abuse, domestic violence, child sexual abuse etc and informed the villagers using placards. Around two hundred people were present in the programme.
