Legendary Ahom Commander Lachit Barphukan’s statue to be erected in Delhi

MORIGAON: ‘Sahai’, a Morigaon based socio-cultural organization is planning to erect a 14 feet tall statue of the Legendary Ahom Commander Lachit Barphukan in Delhi at the end of this year. The organization led by its chief functionary Raju Mahanta has started the process for erecting the statue of Legendary Ahom Commander Lachit Barphukan. Talking to the The sentinel, Raju Mahanta said, “We are trying to get the necessary permission from the Government of Delhi/Municipal Corporation through the Chief Minister of Assam to erect the statue at a suitable place in Delhi. We are thinking of collecting donations of Rs. 50 - 100 from interested people of Assam to raise funds for the construction of the statue.” ‘Sahai’ has been working for uplifting the society since the formation of organization in 2008. Like every year the organization presented the ‘Baisnav Pandit Dayal Krishna Bora memorial Brahmaputra Upttakya Samaj Hitoihe Bata -2023’ to prominent journalist-storyteller and Sahitya Academy Award winner Manoj Kumar Goswami on July 1 at Morigaon Pabitora Hut in a well attended function. The socio-cultural organization ‘Sahai’ is not only associated with such social works but also working for sheltering the homeless persons and street baggers in the district.
