JORHAT: A leopard was captured in the ONGCL campus, Cinnamora on the outskirts of Jorhat city on Thursday, said forest department sources. This is the second big cat to be caged within this month. The ONGC Colony at Cinnamora, Jorhat has turned into a haven for leopards which are suspected to have come from the adjacent tea gardens that touch the boundary of Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. Officials and their family members in the ONCGL campus have to stay indoors as soon as darkness falls.
The ONGCL authority placed a cage in the last week of April following which a female leopard was caged on May 5 while the second got caged in the early hours of Thursday and was brought to Jorhat forest division. It will be set free in Kaziranga National Park, informed Tonkeswar Gayan, a forest official.
